Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden

Ξ October 23rd, 2007 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Anime |

It’s been a while that I haven’t updated this blog. I’ve been busy in the past few weeks and I haven’t got the time to write something interesting.

However, I came across this one interesting manga while looking for some interesting anime titles in mangavolume.com. It’s entitled “Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden”, a prequel to the famous Fushigi Yuugi anime.

Fushigi yuugi Genbu

The lead character in the story is a 17-year-old girl named Takiko Okuda, who is living with her ill mother after recently moving to a small town. Her father comes home one day (he’s never home, as he’s a busy novelist), much to Takiko’s chagrin. He apparently has been working on something called “The Universe of the Four Gods” and even after returning home, is obsessed with the book. Her mother soon dies and Takiko becomes angry at her father for ignoring the two of them. These feelings, paired with her feelings of loneliness and uselessness at being rejected both in love and by her father, lead her to attempt to tear the book apart. However, it instead whisks her away to the country of Hokkan where all of her adventures begin.

There are differences from the original FY and this one. Some of them are:
* While the priestesses of Suzaku and Seiryu are regarded as saviors who show up when the country is in trouble, Takiko and her warriors are feared as bad omens whose appearance itself brings misfortune.
* The Genbu bunch had several assassins sent after them; also, while Miaka had the luxury of consulting Tai Yi-Jun, Takiko does not, although Tai Yi-Jun has helped them in some tight spots.
* Takiko is far more aggressive and inclined to fight than the more naive and optimistic Miaka.
* Miaka immediately feel for Tamahome and confessed her feelings while Takiko and Uruki took longer in developing feelings for one another, allowing for a more mature relationship to form by the time they admit their feelings for one another.

The ending will also be different from the original FY where the characters lived happily ever after. It is expected that Takiko will be murdered by her own father to prevent her from being consumed by Genbu. I regret that it have to be that way but I guess it just have to be if the conclusion will follow the one in the original FY.

Reasons Why I Don’t Think We Should Confess to Priests

Ξ October 2nd, 2007 | → 15 Comments | ∇ opinion |

After reading an article from the site I usually visit when I’m bored, I was inspired to write this. I really don’t think we should confess our sins to priests because we cannot atone our sins that way. Jesus died for our sins and the veil was torn so we can have this open door to come to our Father and repent. He will gladly forgive us because He loves us.

Here are the reasons why we don’t need a mediator (priest) when confessing our sins.

i) First of all, as I mentioned above, Jesus already died on the cross to forgive us. He has become our bridge to the Father. So why not tell it to Him instead of telling it to someone else?

ii) We have sinned against God’s laws and it is just right that we accept our mistakes and ask His forgiveness. If I sinned against my friend, do I ask forgiveness from my sister? Of course not! It is likely that I go to my friend and tell her I’m sorry, right?

iii) Do priests really remember our sins when we tell it to them? Do they really pray for a specific person’s wrongdoings so that God will forgive that person? Like a priest will say, “Please forgive Lucy because she did this and that, and also forgive Paul because he committed this…”? Only God knows us completely. He knows what we’ve done and He’s waiting for us to come to Him and lay it all down to His feet.

iv) Even if we tell the priest our sins, he won’t be able to forgive us. Only He can forgive us. So why do we have to confess in the confession box? It is better that we bow our knees and talk to Him directly.

v) Confessing to priest will never give you the peace of mind and happiness that only Jesus can give. There will still be guilt inside you because you are never sure that God already forgave you. But if you just pray and repent, you’ll receive greater joy and you’ll be blessed because you recognized that you are a sinner and you ask God for His forgiveness and mercy. You believe that He is your Only Hope and Savior.

We don’t have to be ashamed, the Lord understands. He will gladly accept us if we just come to Him.
